A PLACE FOR YOUR PROGRAM

Begin with the purpose
of your place.

From an exhibition of artworks to a wider program with artist conversations, we welcome proposals from partners who introduce Japanese art and spirituality to museums, cultural venues and international events.

01 / CURATORS & EXHIBITION PARTNERS

Curators, agencies and art consultants

Explore a collaboration around the selection of works, an exhibition concept and artist participation. Artworks can be combined with talks or sound experiences for the audience and setting you have in mind.

02 / LOCAL GOVERNMENTS & COMMUNITIES

Local cultural programs

Create time for art and conversation in a cultural venue or community gathering. Offer an opportunity to consider life and our connection with ourselves and others.

03 / INTERNATIONAL EVENTS

International events and cultural exchange

For exhibitions, cultural exchange and conferences introducing Japanese culture and art. We discuss content and presentation in relation to the country, venue and audience.

JAPANESE SPIRITUALITY & CONTEMPORARY ART

A cultural story,
felt through art.

For partners developing exhibitions around Japanese spirituality, contemplation and the meaning of life, these themes offer starting points for a curatorial conversation.

Koyasan and Kūkai

Our exhibitions at Koyasan (Mount Koya) inform an artistic exploration of Kūkai (Kukai) and his Shingon Buddhist context. Bonji, mandalas and images of life’s beginnings open questions about connection and existence.

Pilgrimage as a cultural connection

The Shikoku pilgrimage—henro or ohenro—offers another cultural connection through an interest in Kūkai. We bring that shared interest into the interpretation of artworks and dialogue about life, place and the journeys people make.

Meditation, mindfulness and wellbeing

Attentive looking, listening and moments of stillness can form part of an exhibition experience. For audiences drawn to meditation, mindfulness and well-being, the program offers space for personal reflection through art.

How can an exhibition agency or cultural producer collaborate?

Contact Feel&Sense with your venue, audience and curatorial interests. We can discuss a selection of works and a program combining exhibition, artist talks, sound, film or dialogue. Responsibilities, language needs, schedule and fees are considered for each project.

How does this relate to an interest in Zen?

An interest in Zen or Japanese spirituality can be a starting point for encountering the work. Its particular cultural reference is Kūkai and Shingon Buddhist imagery. Artist talks place that context at the centre of the conversation.

ART, DIALOGUE & RESONANCE

An exhibition becomes
an experience.

These forms of expression can be brought together as needed. A program can include all of them or begin with a selection.

ART EXHIBITION

Encounter the artworks

Works in bonji, mandalas and life photography. We discuss the selection and arrangement of works in relation to the character and exhibition conditions of your venue.

ARTIST TALK & DIALOGUE

Share the questions

Talks on Kūkai’s wisdom, life and our sense of worth in the age of AI, through the artists’ perspective. Conversations with other speakers or participants can be included.

SOUND, FILM & STILLNESS

Experience resonance

Live voice and music, film, meditation or a quiet interval. We shape these elements around the purpose of the program and the venue’s sound and screening conditions.
